Federal prosecutors seek to charge drug cartel leaders with murder, corruption

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Sacramento, California, filed a criminal complaint Friday against five members of the Mexican-based Jalisco New Generation cartel.

The complaint accuses the cartel’s leaders of murder, conspiracy, extortion and money laundering, all of which are felonies under federal law.

The defendants were arrested in March 2018 after federal agents and DEA agents conducted a sting operation on the cartel.
