If you want to live longer, you’re going to have to be prepared to do a lot of exercise, and this means you’ll have to do more than just burn off some calories.
In fact, the health benefits of exercise are just as significant, if not more so, than those of eating a steak, according to a study published in the journal Preventive Medicine.
“Exercise is an essential component of a healthy diet,” says Dr. Susan L. Bader, PhD, a professor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania and an author of the study.
“In fact, many studies have found that exercise can be beneficial for weight loss, inflammation, and even improved heart health.

“You should never be eating more than you need to sustain yourself and your body for at least 30 minutes,” says Bader and coauthor Dr. Laura L. Anderson, PhD. “If you do, you’ll be doing a lot more exercise than you can sustain for that time.
The key is to take your breaks when you can, but never overdo it.”
Exercise breaks can be as simple as resting, eating, or stretching.
“It’s important to have a short break and then to get back to the normal life,” says Anderson.
“When you do this regularly, your body will adjust to the increased activity and the resulting changes in blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure.”
In the past, many people have done the exercise routine by going for a walk or walking for 15 to 20 minutes.
Nowadays, the best way to do this is to do 5 to 10 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise at least five to 10 times a week.
This can be anything from a brisk walk to a short jog or even a bike ride.
The longer the distance, the harder it is to sustain the activity and you’ll feel more tired, so you’ll need to slow down.
When to take breaks from exercise exercise?
Exercise breaks should be at least two hours apart, ideally a 20-minute walk.
If there are no options, a short hike to a park or an indoor gym can be a great alternative.
Exercise breaks are especially beneficial if you are doing a long distance run, as long as you can be at your pace.
For those who are exercising at home, it’s best to start with walking around a quiet, private place for about five minutes, followed by a 10-minute rest.
That way, you can get the necessary recovery time to resume your exercise.

But if you have to break up the session, don’t be afraid to ask your friends to join in on the fun.
“Being in a group is the perfect way to work out together and keep things moving forward,” says Laskin.
“Even if you can’t get into a group, a good group workout is a great way to increase your activity.”

There are a variety of exercise machines and stationary bikes that can be purchased for a fraction of the cost of a proper gym membership.
They range from the very basic to expensive, so make sure you choose one that meets your needs.
There are also a variety on the market that can do different types of exercise.
If your goal is to get stronger and healthier, you might choose to do some strength training.
For example, strength training can help you build muscle while reducing your risk of osteoporosis.
“Strength training can be done at home or at the gym and can provide you with some muscle mass and a good amount of cardiovascular endurance,” says Johnson.
“The more you train, the better you can handle a stress and increase your endurance.”
If you’re a powerlifter, the equipment may be more affordable, but there’s a chance you’ll run out of space, says Lassiter.
If it’s time for a run, consider getting a treadmill or elliptical machine.
They can be incredibly useful for getting your heart rate up and your heart rates down, so they’ll also help you recover from a run or to do pushups.
If cardio is your thing, a treadmill is ideal, as it provides a good cardio workout and can help your heart be able to function at a higher level.
